Limited Capacity filling up

Empathizing with the feelings and perspectives of others is the foundation for good communication, teamwork, and strong leadership. Empathy is essential no matter what paths our children take, or what jobs they undertake, in the future. As we strive to achieve and perform in our society, empathy is often overlooked. Empathy creates connection, builds trust and reminds us that others care about us. Our children have a natural capacity for empathy, but they need the adults in their lives to help them develop and display it. In this session we will:

  • Learn skills and behaviors that help young people develop empathy
  • Consider how cultivating an attitude of gratitude can build empathy
  • Discuss how empathy is fostered through authentic connections within our families and communities as well as across different and diverse groups
  • Explore sample activities at various developmental levels that help students consider different viewpoints
